Note: Given the intermedia nature of this production, including the use of video projectors as lighting instruments and the mix of live video feed with canned imagery on multiple projection surfaces, the Technical Rider gives the ideal set-up for presentation of Reading Frankenstein. However, adaptations of these technical requirements to differing presentation venues can be made creatively without changing the intermedia performance impact.
The minimum requirements for production are:
- A 14 x 14 playing area
- One 10 x 12 rear projection screen
- Image on Back Projection screen must be 9x12 and rear projected. Distance from Screen to rear projector, to be determined in space with current projector. If projector specifications are provided to design team, dimensions will be calculated.
- Two 10x12 Projection surfaces (rear projection is not necessary) are required unless side walls of the theatre can be used as projection surfaces.
- Four video projectors (three mounted as lighting instruments and the fourth for rear projection)
- One digital video camera and supporting tri-pod
- Three 20 onstage monitors
- One off-stage monitor for real-time video station (location to be determined by theatre and design staff/engineer)
- One video camera of any quality used as a surveillance camera for the real-time video station
Please review the specification of the following equipment on the technical rider to assure performance flexibility and quality:
- Two wireless mics
- One video mixer
- One video switcher
- One audio mixer
- Sufficient cable to connect system (consult with Design Staff/Engineer)
- All Video and Audio equipment that differs from the technical rider need to be reviewed by original Designers/Staff
- Minimal performance lighting system to support projectors. Minimum of 2 Fresnels and 6 Lekos.
- Audio playback system with a minimum of 2 speakers

Production will provide drawings with basic location of Lighting, Video and Audio equipment. Location will vary from venue to venue.
A crew of 4 is necessary for set-up and performance run. Stage Manager will travel with production.
The Beall Center for Art and Technology is open to inquiry concerning possible loan of technical equipment in support of the production. Inquiries should be directed to: Indi McCarthy, Assistant Director of the Beall Center, indi@uci.edu
